Mehiläinen to acquire pan-Nordic specialist care group Aleris

18 May 2026

Finnish healthcare provider Mehiläinen has signed a definitive agreement to acquire pan-Nordic specialist care group Aleris from private equity firm Triton Partners, creating a group with an estimated €3.7bn in pro forma revenue.

This transaction represents a major consolidation in the European healthcare market, creating a regional powerhouse with operations spanning nine countries.

For investors, the deal highlights a significant private equity transition. Triton Partners is exiting Aleris after a seven-year holding period, having transformed the asset by divesting non-core segments to focus strictly on specialist healthcare.

While the exact purchase price remains undisclosed, the acquisition is being financed through a mix of debt and equity supported by owners such as CVC Capital Partners.

For healthcare operators, the strategic rationale hinges on digital integration and outpatient scale. By acquiring Aleris, Mehiläinen gains immediate entry into the Norwegian and Danish markets while bolstering its existing presence in Sweden. The transaction adds approximately 100 clinics and hospitals to the Mehiläinen network, alongside specialised capabilities in elective surgery, mental health services, and medical diagnostics. The combined organisation will employ roughly 60,000 healthcare professionals across more than 1,500 locations.

Mehiläinen looks set to deploy its proprietary artificial intelligence and digital healthcare platforms across the newly acquired Scandinavian infrastructure. By combining these digital tools with the established patient portal programmes at Aleris, operational leaders will build smoother integrated care pathways and improve access to outpatient services.

Figures for the purchase price have not been formally disclosed. Once customary regulatory approvals are secured, the integrated platform is expected to serve over six million patients annually, establishing a highly digitised model for cross-border healthcare delivery.
