Healthcare Activos launches new hospital platform
Healthcare Activos launched its newest strategic vehicle, Healthcare Activos Hospitals, on Tuesday, July 22.
Created in partnership with a group of long term institutional investors, the platform has an initial investment target of €800m.
The platform has acquired three hospitals in Portugal from Praemia REIM and Icade for a total transaction value, including planned expansion capital, of up to €250 million. These assets, located in Lisbon, Porto, and Albufeira, will continue to be operated by Lusíadas Saúde, a major private provider owned by Vivalto Santé.
For investors and operators, this launch signals a disciplined expansion into acute care settings beyond the firm’s traditional focus on nursing homes and rehabilitation centres. The platform specifically targets regions where publicly funded systems face mounting pressure, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, and Iberia.
With this transaction, Healthcare Activos will manage a total portfolio worth €1.6bn across seven countries, including approximately €400 million in hospital and clinic assets. Management has set an ambitious growth trajectory to invest up to €400 million annually, aiming to reach €3 billion in assets under management by 2030. This strategy aligns with a broader market trend where capital is increasingly seeking high quality, future proofed assets with sustainable indexation.
This new hospital platform provides a dedicated vehicle for institutional capital to participate in the essential development of European clinical infrastructure alongside proven private operators.
