H. Lundbeck divests Italian pharma manufacturing subsidiary
Listed Danish pharmaceutical giant H. Lundbeck is divesting its Italian manufacturing subsidiary, Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals Italy, to Flamma, a privately owned Italian contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO).
While the exact financial terms and transaction value have not been publicly disclosed, the deal marks a significant strategic realignment for both organisations.
For Lundbeck, the divestment represents a deliberate effort to streamline its manufacturing footprint and rationalise its global supply chain. Lundbeck’s management stated that the company’s future requirements for small molecule manufacturing can be fully and efficiently met by its primary manufacturing facility located in Lumsås, Denmark. This consolidation allows Lundbeck to focus its internal resources on its core areas of therapeutic innovation, particularly in neurology and psychiatry.
The Padova-based Italian facility has a long track record of high-quality chemical synthesis, but Lundbeck’s evolving pipeline has shifted focus away from the small molecule chemistries historically produced at the site.
Conversely, for Flamma, the acquisition of the Padova site represents a major expansion of its domestic and international CDMO capabilities. Flamma specialises in the contract manufacturing of small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients, peptides, and advanced intermediates. This acquisition will bring significant technical, scientific, and operational capabilities to Flamma, enhancing its capacity to serve global biopharmaceutical innovators across the entire drug development lifecycle.
The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close on 1 January 2027.
