GE Healthcare acquires imaging software specialist Intelerad
Global medical technology, diagnostics, and digital solutions giant GE HealthCare (GEHC) has announced a strategic $2.3 billion acquisition of US-based Intelerad, a leading cloud-based medical imaging software provider.
According to the group, this move directly addresses the $2 billion-plus outpatient enterprise imaging opportunity, where cloud-native solutions are projected to grow at double-digit rates due to rising outpatient procedures and demand for integrated, efficiency-driven platforms.
The acquisition complements GEHC’s dominant inpatient imaging footprint by extending its reach into ambulatory and outpatient care settings , creating a unified enterprise imaging solution across all care environments.
Financially, Intelerad is expected to generate $270 million in revenue in GEHC’s first full year of ownership, growing at a low-double-digit annual rate with over 30% adjusted EBITDA margins .
The ~28x EBITDA valuation – significantly higher than peers like Swedish technology company Sectra – reflects aggressive growth expectations.
London-based PE Hg Capital, Intelerad’s former majority owner, celebrated the exit after driving 3.5x revenue growth during its tenure, calling the GEHC partnership a catalyst for further global expansion. Jordan Bazinsky, Intelerad’s CEO, affirmed that GEHC’s scale will amplify the platform’s impact, stating “together, we’ll deliver integrated AI solutions that tackle healthcare’s greatest challenges”. For investors and operators alike, this acquisition represents a high-stakes bet on cloud-led imaging consolidation—and a critical test of GEHC’s integration capabilities in a fragmented market.
