Fresenius Medical Care acquires kidney specialist Interwell Health
The world’s leading provider of products and services for people with chronic kidney failure, Fresenius Medical Care, has finalised its full acquisition of all non-physician stakes in the U.S.-based kidney care and support group Interwell Health (IWH) for €312m.
The transaction strengthens Fresenius’ position as the undisputed leader in renal value-based care, uniquely combining nephrologist networks, clinic infrastructure, and proprietary health tech platforms.
Tommy P. O’Connor has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer of IWH and business segment leader of VBC (value-based care), effective October 1, 2025. O’Connor previously served as CEO of the Empire and Midwest Markets for United Healthcare, Medicare and will report to Helen Giza, CEO and Chair of the Management Board at Fresenius.
He succeeds Robert Sepucha, who informed the management board of his intention to leave the company at the end of September 2025.
