Dr Michelle Tempest lends expertise to HealthInvestor article on waiting lists “buster”

15 January 2025

UK healthcare specialist publication, HealthInvestor reported on the UK government’s elective reform plan in January which was been designed to address the waiting list NHS backlog of 7.5 million patients.

Candesic Senior Partner, Dr Michelle Tempest, lent her expertise to the article and provided commentary on how the independent sector could access more NHS work in order to help reduce the backlog.

The plan emphasises extending the operational hours and reach of Community Diagnostic Centres, reaffirming patient choice by allowing individuals to select treatment locations (including private providers), as well as leveraging advanced technologies such as AI for missed appointment predictions and remote patient monitoring. While the strategy echoes previous efforts, it sets a firm target of achieving the 18-week referral-to-treatment goal by the next general election.

She also emphasised the importance of immediate action, transparent reporting, and workforce support to make a tangible difference.
