UK-based health and social care services specialist Cygnet Group has entered the Republic of Ireland market with the acquisition of Orchard Care Group.

The transaction which completed on Wednesday, July 8 marks a major milestone in the ongoing expansion programme for the UK based provider. Through this deal, Cygnet inherits a substantial portfolio consisting of thirty-nine residential and community homes alongside two specialised day services.

The acquired organisation employs more than 550 staff who support children, young people, and adults across various integrated care services, including fostering and disability care.

For investors and operators, this move signals a pivot toward international diversification by Cygnet, which is backed by its long term strategic partner Universal Health Services Inc. Universal Health Services is one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States and has supported Cygnet through a period of intensive growth.

In the two years preceding this acquisition, Cygnet successfully constructed seven state of the art mental health hospitals in England and acquired four other UK based care companies, including Daley Care Centre and Oakview Care Services.

Professor Tony Romero, the chief executive officer of Cygnet Group, described the move as a pivotal step in the journey to offer high quality residential support beyond the United Kingdom. The existing leadership at Orchard Care Group, led by chief executive Natalya Jackson, will continue to manage the organisation to ensure continuity of care and maintain local relationships.

Jackson noted that joining forces with an established provider allows the group to marry specialised local care with the extensive resources and expertise of a larger corporate entity. The integration process is currently focused on innovation and further investment in frontline teams to extend vital services to more communities across Ireland.

The acquisition of Orchard Care Group aligns with historical expansion patterns where US based buyers have sought consolidation opportunities within the European healthcare sector. This latest transaction into the Republic of Ireland follows previous successful integrations of groups such as Alpha Hospitals and the Danshell Group.
