CFO relocation stateside sparks rumours of transatlantic pivot
British multinational Smith & Nephew’s decision to base Chief Financial Officer John Rogers in the United States marks more than a change of address; it underscores the medical-technology group’s growing American centre of gravity and re-ignites debate over a potential shift of the company’s corporate and listing domicile.
Rogers has been employed in the U.S. since September 29, after spending considerable time there already, with board backing for the move. The CFO will still allocate significant time to the London headquarters, but the company describes the relocation as essential to strengthen leadership and oversight of regional operations and to drive execution of the business strategy.
It is worth noting that the United States generated nearly 54 % of Smith & Nephew’s 2024 revenue – by far the company’s largest market. The move places Rogers alongside CEO Deepak Nath and most of the senior executive team already based in the U.S.
Analysts have speculated Smith & Nephew could be a prime candidate to switch its primary listing to the U.S. in pursuit of deeper capital markets, higher valuation multiples, and deal currency advantages.
Smith & Nephew has stressed that London remains its global headquarters.
