Bupa creates tri-hospital hub with King Edward VII’s Hospital acquisition
Bupa is acquiring King Edward VII’s Hospital, a high-profile private facility in London’s Harley Street district, marking a strategic expansion of its secondary care footprint in the UK capital.
The deal, expected to close by end-2025, adds the hospital’s 56 beds, three operating theatres, diagnostic clinic, and specialized outpatient facility – launched in 2022 – to Bupa’s growing network.
This acquisition follows Bupa’s August 2025 purchase of New Victoria Hospital, creating a tri-hospital hub in London alongside Cromwell Hospital. The combined facilities will offer integrated specialist services, including digestive health, urology, women’s health, musculoskeletal care, ophthalmology, and dermatology.
Sarah Melia, General Manager of Bupa Health Services said: “The addition of King Edward VII’s Hospital creates a hub of specialist services within the London region for our customers and patients, enabling them to get fast access to care within Bupa.
“We’re excited for the shared health innovation that this hub creates, as well as a premium proposition for healthcare professionals offering greater access to new treatment techniques and best practice through greater collaboration and sharing across the hospital network.”
Sir Richard Sykes, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at King Edward VII’s Hospital said: “Becoming part of Bupa will mean the hospital will be able to continue its distinctive tradition of excellence and care.
“Our charity, which has operated the King Edward VII’s Hospital since 1899, will now focus entirely on the valuable work of supporting the health of veterans and their families. We look forward to developing new ways of supporting the health needs of those who have served our country and their families.”
While financial terms remain undisclosed, the move signals Bupa’s commitment to vertical integration in private healthcare, leveraging physical infrastructure to capture higher-margin specialty services. Investors may see the accelerated timeline —with two London acquisitions finalised within three months—as a bullish indicator of aggressive growth execution.
