Attendo acquiring substance abuse specialist

5 May 2026

Finland Attendo has signed a definitive agreement to acquire A-klinikka Oy, a Finnish healthcare company specialising in substance abuse from the Finnish not-for-profit group A-Clinic Foundation.

The transaction expands the footprint of the listed Nordic care provider into the specialised segment of substance abuse and addiction treatment services.

A-klinikka Oy is a prominent Finnish healthcare operator providing treatment services to multiple regions across the country serving as a key regional asset. It employs approximately 300 social and healthcare professionals and manages roughly 70,000 treatment days annually.

Investors and operators will note this move represents a calculated bolt-on acquisition that aligns directly with the strategy of parent group, leading private Nordic care company Attendo, to balance organic expansion with targeted purchases of high-quality companies in areas experiencing structural capacity shortages.

Virpi Holmqvist, Managing Director of Attendo Finland, notes that the target has built a compelling service offering yielding strong treatment results in a sector suffering from a fundamental lack of capacity. She emphasises that the combination allows both organisations to address critical societal needs that neither could resolve independently. Meanwhile, the divestment allows the A-Clinic Foundation to concentrate capital and resources on its core public service missions of research and advocacy.

The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory clearance from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority and is anticipated to close by the summer of 2026. Management has confirmed that the purchase will have no material impact on the short-term financial results of the group for the current fiscal year.
