Apposite Capital launches fund to invest in health technology
Healthcare and life sciences investor Apposite Capital has launched Apposite Healthcare Growth I, a fund investing to support the growth of health technology companies primarily in the UK.
The fund has been anchored by a £100 million commitment from the British Business Bank, the bank’s largest commitment to date.
The group says the fund will invest in “innovative companies across medical products, diagnostics, life sciences tools, digital health, and pharmaceutical outsourcing services”.
It added: “The UK healthcare technology and life sciences sector is one of the most innovative globally, with an exceptional ecosystem of world leading universities, research institutions, and entrepreneurial companies, creating very attractive opportunities to invest in and grow businesses. While there is a well-developed environment for early stage funding and late stage investing, there is a shortage of scale-up capital for companies approaching a growth inflection; a gap which Apposite Healthcare Growth I will help to fill.”
According to Apposite, the fund will invest to support the growth of UK companies that are developing market leading technologies and services to improve patient outcomes and access to healthcare, while enabling them to compete globally, and create highly skilled jobs across research, engineering, manufacturing, and commercial functions.
To this end, Apposite Capital is collaborating with the National Institute for Health and Care Research and both organisations will share research, networks and insight to identify and support healthcare companies in need of scale-up capital.
Sam Gray, Managing Partner at Apposite Capital, said: “The commitment from the British Business Bank will enable Apposite to continue its strong track record of supporting ambitious growing companies and investing in businesses that can achieve better healthcare for more people.
“Apposite Healthcare Growth I will back the next generation of UK healthcare technology leaders. The UK is home to an extraordinary depth of scientific research, entrepreneurial talent, and innovative companies, yet many businesses face a persistent gap in scale-up funding.
“This fund will help to bridge that gap, enabling high potential companies to accelerate their growth, commercialise transformative technologies, improve health outcomes and support economic growth.”
