Telix and ITM merger creates radiopharmaceutical giant
Listed global biopharmaceutical company Telix Pharmaceuticals has announced a strategic merger with German radiopharmaceutical biotechnology company ITM Isotope Technologies Munich.
The transaction signals a significant shift toward vertical integration in the radiopharmaceutical sector.
The transaction, valued at US$1.65 billion upfront plus up to US$700 million in potential milestone payments, aims to secure Telix’s position as a global leader in precision medicine.
For investors, this deal represents a bold attempt to address the industry’s most critical bottleneck: the reliable supply of therapeutic radioisotopes.
ITM is currently the world’s leading commercial supplier of no-carrier-added lutetium-177, a vital component for targeted radionuclide therapies. By acquiring ITM, Telix gains control over a profitable manufacturing business that also spans actinium-225 and terbium-161 production.
This infrastructure is essential as global demand for these isotopes continues to outpace supply, occasionally disrupting clinical trials and commercial delivery for major pharmaceutical players. The merger transforms what was previously a cost centre into a diversified revenue stream, as ITM already serves as a key supplier for competitors’ approved therapies, such as Novartis’ Pluvicto.
Beyond manufacturing, the acquisition significantly bolsters Telix’s therapeutic pipeline.
The combined organisation will possess the industry’s most extensive theranostic drug portfolio, supported by a distribution network reaching over 65 countries.
Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
