Bain Capital acquiring Vitabiotics in £900m deal
Global private investment firm Bain Capital is to acquire British vitamin and mineral supplement company Vitabiotics.
Announced on Friday, July 24, the deal marks a significant consolidation in the European consumer healthcare sector. The transaction values the UK’s leading nutraceutical firm at approximately £900m (roughly $1.2bn).
This acquisition includes the core British operations and the wider VB Group, which encompasses substantial assets such as Meyer Organics in India and various subsidiaries across Africa.
Bain Capital’s international infrastructure is expected to scale Vitabiotics’ presence in high-growth markets like China, India, and the Middle East.
Tej Lalvani will remain as CEO to ensure leadership continuity, while his father and founder, Professor Kartar Lalvani, will transition to Chairman Emeritus. The company will continue to operate from its UK headquarters, which serves as a central hub for innovation and scientific research.
For healthcare operators and investors, this deal underscores the continued appetite for science-led consumer brands that possess proven medical credibility and strong multi-channel potential. Vitabiotics has maintained its position as the top vitamin brand in the UK by sales value since 2013, with a portfolio including Pregnacare, Wellman, and Perfectil.
