Ardian takes majority control of Pflegia
Global private investment firm Ardian is acquiring a majority stake in Berlin-based digital healthcare recruitment platform Pflegia.
Founded in 2019, Pflegia operates an AI powered reverse recruiting platform that connects healthcare professionals with care providers by matching candidate preferences with institutional needs. This transaction marks a significant move for Ardian Growth, the specialist team within the firm that focuses on scaling high potential technology companies across Europe.
The investment aims to accelerate Pflegia’s expansion within Germany and across the broader European market while driving innovation in AI powered permanent recruitment. Pflegia has already established a dominant position in the German healthcare ecosystem, boasting a proprietary database of over 900,000 registered healthcare candidates and a customer base exceeding 10,000 care providers. The platform currently facilitates approximately 1,000 permanent placements every month, addressing the structural staffing shortages that continue to challenge the healthcare sector.
In 2024, the company further diversified its reach by launching Praxia, a dedicated recruitment platform specifically targeting staff for medical and dental practices. This expansion allowed Pflegia to capture a wider share of the healthcare staffing market beyond traditional nursing and elderly care. Ardian intends to leverage its extensive track record of partnering with founder led businesses to support Pflegia’s management team in areas such as organisational scaling, international expansion, and external growth initiatives.
For healthcare operators and investors, this deal highlights the growing value of technological solutions in managing workforce pressures. The German healthcare market remains particularly attractive due to its ageing population and high levels of public funding, which represent 74% of total healthcare expenditure. By integrating AI to improve matching precision, Pflegia enables providers to fill critical roles more efficiently and helps professionals find ideal positions faster. As Ardian takes its place as a majority shareholder, the focus will likely remain on transforming Pflegia from a national category champion into a leading European digital recruitment powerhouse.
