GHO and CBC merger to create $21bn healthcare investor

20 May 2026

European healthcare specialist GHO Capital and Singapore-based CBC Group have signed a definitive agreement to merge, creating the largest dedicated healthcare investment manager globally with over $21bn in combined assets under management.

The transaction, structured as a merger of equals, is expected to close in early 2027.

For investors and operators, the combination bridges GHO’s established presence in North America and Europe with CBC’s extensive footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. Collectively, these markets account for approximately ninety per cent of global healthcare research and development expenditure.

With the Asia-Pacific region alone driving forty per cent of this global research spend, establishing a formidable local presence was viewed as a highly complementary extension for GHO. The expansive geographical reach is designed to connect leading healthcare innovations with the largest global pools of capital.

The strategic implications for portfolio companies are significant. The newly formed entity will empower founders and management teams to internationalise cutting-edge solutions across borders. Western healthcare companies will gain enhanced access to local operating capabilities across Asian markets, while Asian enterprises can leverage the enlarged firm’s global execution support to scale with confidence.

Market analysts have already noted that existing CBC portfolio companies, such as Everest Medicines, are expected to benefit from these enhanced resource synergies to accelerate the global commercialisation of their products.

Moving forward, the combined firm will offer institutional investors access to private equity, private credit, and real estate assets strictly focused on the healthcare sector. Investment targets will span pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life science tools, and healthcare infrastructure. Leadership has indicated that artificial intelligence applications within healthcare and life sciences will be a primary investment focus as the firm backs high-growth opportunities.

Upon completion, the unified firm will employ more than two hundred professionals across thirteen global offices. GHO co-founder Mike Mortimer and CBC founder Fu Wei will serve as co-chief executives to steer the integrated platform. Until the regulatory approvals are finalised and the deal closes, both GHO and CBC will continue to operate independently without changes to their existing governance or investment mandates.
