TPG Real Estate Partners buys German and Dutch Properties
In a move that signals a strategic pivot for listed Toronto-based Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (NWH), the trust has finalised the sale of a €400 million portfolio of German and Dutch property assets to TPG Real Estate Partners.
This transaction, announced in January 2026, involves the divestment of a significant collection of medical office buildings to the private equity platform owned by TPG.
For Northwest, this “en-bloc” European asset sale is a logical capital allocation decision aimed at deleveraging and simplifying its complex global platform. The sale of this portfolio allows the REIT to capitalise on the region’s low interest rates and renewed investor appetite for healthcare infrastructure.
From the perspective of TPG, the acquisition underscores a growing trend where private capital fills the void left by public REITs facing higher financing costs and potential market undervaluation. Healthcare assets remain highly attractive to private equity due to their inflation-indexed leases and the defensive, needs-driven nature of the sector.
As NWH transitions toward a more streamlined model, this transaction provides TPG with a high-quality, stabilised European footprint.
