Spire Healthcare Group shares surge as takeover talks confirmed
Spire Healthcare Group has confirmed it is in preliminary discussions with several private equity firms regarding a potential takeover. The discussions are part of an ongoing strategic review first announced in September 2025.
Spire has officially identified specific parties involved in the preliminary negotiations following significant market speculation, confirming Bridgepoint Advisers Limited and Triton Investment Advisers LLP are among the parties in discussions.
Following the confirmation of talks on January 26, Spire’s shares surged by as much as 20% in intraday trading.
The company noted that it had been granted a dispensation by the Takeover Panel from naming other potential bidders unless they are identified in market speculation.
Under the UK Takeover Code, the identified suitors face strict deadlines to formalise their interest. Both Bridgepoint and Triton are required to announce a firm intention to make an offer or walk away by 5pm on February 21. This deadline can only be extended with the consent of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers.
Spire has cautioned investors that discussions remain at a preliminary stage and there is no certainty that any offer will be made.
