Philips acquiring SpectraWAVE for full coronary AI “decision stack”
Dutch multinational health technology company Philips has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MedTech company SpectraWAVE.
Based in Bedford, Massachusetts, SpectraWAVE is a pioneer in Enhanced Vascular Imaging (EVI) and AI-driven medical imaging, employing over 70 specialists dedicated to treating coronary artery disease.
For investors, this acquisition is a “platform consolidation play” designed to secure workflow primacy within the cardiac catheterisation lab. By integrating SpectraWAVE’s HyperVue Imaging System and Starlight Imaging Catheter, Philips closes a critical gap in high-resolution optical imaging (OCT). This will allow Philips to control the entire procedural loop: visualising plaque, quantifying physiology via X1-FFR software, guiding therapy through its Azurion platform, and confirming results.
Operators and clinicians stand to benefit from a unified approach where disparate tools are integrated into a single ecosystem.
SpectraWAVE’s CEO, Eman Namati, emphasised that the partnership will scale their AI-integrated technologies into the world’s leading image-guided therapy ecosystem. This integration is intended to support more consistent, high-quality care for the 300 million people worldwide affected by coronary disease.
